The Science of Homeopathy

At a time when most people are aware that the use and over use of antibiotics in our society has created many disease strains that are resistant to the antibiotics currently on the market, the science of homeopathy is gaining interest and support throughout the world.

Antibiotics and Their Role in Fighting Disease

Antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections, but for many reasons over recent years, antibiotics were prescribed to people suffering from infections known to be caused by viruses which do not respond to antibiotics. Strains of organisms that once responded to antibiotic treatment are no longer effective against it. Homeopathy offers a natural and effective alternative to this widespread indiscriminate use of antibiotics.

The assumption of homeopathy is that the body, left to itself will under normal circumstances heal itself and rid itself of any organisms that it sees as a danger to its health. Our body systems are uniquely designed to fight disease, repair wounds and protection, although depending on the health of an individual, these processes may take different periods of time to achieve in different people.

Homeopathy and the Immune System

Homeopathy works on the principal of giving the body time to produce its own response to disease and to providing naturally occurring materials to assist the process.

Homeopathic practitioners warn that the widespread use of antibiotics has also created a reduction in the immune response of most people, leading to many of the minor ailments that some people are constantly plagued with such as sinusitis and the common cold.

Homeopathy seeks to assist the body to kick start its own immune response and to restore its balance to enable it to fight its own infections without needing to rely on manufactured chemicals to do this job for it. This heightened immune response will also help prevent other infections and create a faster response within the body to infections.

Homeopathy is a holistic approach to health care and includes emphasis on good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. It was devised in Germany over 200 years ago and has been used widely around the world. The concept of homeopathy can be traced back to Hippocrates and perhaps even earlier and is derived from a Latin word meaning to recreate and similar .

Principles of Homeopathy

The concept is loosely based on producing symptoms in healthy people. By taking remedies in highly diluted amounts, the body's own immune system is encouraged to produce its own response to those symptoms Homeopaths produce highly diluted forms of remedies and prescribe them not only on the basis of the illness itself, but by carefully analyzing each individual patient and choosing a remedy that takes into account the emotional and physical condition of that individual.

This individualized approach to prescribing treatments can mean that two people attending a homeopathic clinic with a similar condition may receive a very different homeopathic remedy.

The benefits of this approach to medicine are debated widely in medical circles, but homeopaths are registered as practitioners within the USA by the Board of Homeopaths and they must be licensed medical practitioners. Homeopathic remedies are under the control of the FDA and the field is a regulated field of health care under these laws.

If you are seeking a holistic approach to health care, you will often find a practitioner working within a clinic that supports other forms of holistic medicine include osteopaths and doctors of acupuncture. Dieticians may also provide nutritional advice t improve the diet and therefore the health of people with vitamin or other deficiencies all of which will impede the immune response.
