Mixing Oil -- How Do You Mix the Oils?

It is okay to add a few drops of essential oils into a warm bath. However, it is not advisable to use the same oil directly on skin. Before starting a massage session, you must first mix the highly concentrated essential oils with base oils (also called carrier oils).

What Are Base Oils?

Base oils act as carriers of your essential oil. We recommend using high-quality oil because low-quality oil (like mineral oil) has poor penetrating quality. The best oils would be vegetable oil or nut oil for babies. You could also choose from among almond, grape seed, olive, sunflower and avocado oils.

Almond oil is considered one of the best base oils because it is non-sticky and suitable for most skin types. Rich in vitamins, it can be used for facial or body massages in people of all ages.

How Much Base Oil Should You Add?

Not too much, maybe just enough for one or two sessions. Essential oils have a long life of about two years. However, when mixed with base oils, it will normally last for about two or three months. So mix only small quantities at a time.
