Water Soluble Vitamins Need to Be Replenished Daily

Our body uses two kinds of vitamins: water-soluble vitamins and fat-soluble vitamins.

Water-soluble vitamins are almost exclusively B vitamins, but Vitamin C is also a water-soluble vitamin. The nine water-soluble vitamins include thiamine or Vitamin B1, riboflavin or Vitamin B2, pantothenic acid, Vitamin B6, biotin, Vitamin C, niacin or Vitamin B3, folic acid and Vitamin B12. In their free state, water-soluble vitamins are inactive and do not work. They must be activated in order to extract the most benefits. Moreover, the human body does not store water-soluble vitamins. Excess amounts are eliminated through urine everyday. Their stores must be replenished daily. It is best to do this by using a proficient multivitamin.

Once ingested, water-soluble vitamins are first absorbed by the intestinal tracts before being passed into the bloodstream. The blood carries the vitamins to the cellular bodies and tissues that need them. The excess vitamins are excreted through urine daily because our body cannot store them. As our cellular tissues get saturated with these vitamins, their excretion rate rises significantly. This prevents overdose but it also means that we need to refuel our bodies with these vitamins everyday.

Water-soluble vitamins have significant effects on many areas of the body. They primarily function as coenzymes, helping the body get energy from diet. They are also critical for red blood cell formation, good appetite, nervous system health, good vision and healthy skin.

Regardless of their benefits, water-soluble vitamins cannot be stored in the body. Ensure a constant supply through diet and supplementation to maintain good health and nutrition.
