Some Vitamin P a Day Keeps the Doctor AwayFlavonoids are plant pigments that can fight a wealth of disorders ranging from hay fever and hot flashes to cancer. Over 4,000 flavonoids or elements of Vitamin P have been discovered so far. Researchers say that there are many more flavonoids waiting to be discovered. Vitamin P flavonoids give fruit and vegetables their color and also have powerful antioxidant properties. Some are even more effective than Vitamin C and Vitamin E in reducing the risk of cellular damage by free radicals. Vitamin P flavonoids are known to fight diseases because they have the ability to decrease inflammation, block histamine release, combat free radicals, boost immunity, improve blood flow and strengthen blood vessels. They help prevent coronary disease by effecting bodily changes in order to avoid arterial blockage. Research conducted in Europe found that subjects who received plenty of Vitamin P were less likely to have stroke or heart disease. One study showed that a Vitamin P-rich diet decreased the chance of heart disease by 23 percent in men and 50 percent in women. Another trial showed a 75 percent decrease in the risk of stroke in men who had the richest Vitamin P diet in comparison to men whose diet was low in Vitamin P.
