Take Your Shortness of Breath Seriously

People often mistake shortness of breath during exercise to be a normal result of physical activity. However, there could be other reasons for experiencing shortness of breath while working out.

Shortness of breath may occur simply because you are in poor physical condition. If you are new to exercising or are following a new routine, your body may need time to adjust to the strain. In this case, the shortness of breath will reduce with time.

Breathlessness may also occur if you have exercise-induced asthma. Many people do not realize this. Being obese or in poor physical shape will increase the severity of the asthma.

Another more serious cause of shortness of breath while exercising is angina. Angina is a symptom of coronary artery disease and is accompanied by pain in the chest area. Some people experience both shortness of breath and pain in the chest. Consult your physician immediately if you experience both these symptoms while exercising.

Shortness of breath during regular physical activity is not necessarily normal. Consult a physician if you experience this regularly. It could be a sign of something more serious than mere physical exertion.
